UNC Chapel Hill Professor Job reinstated
Professor Dwayne Dixon was put on administrative leave earlier this week while an investigation was underway regarding allegations that he supported "politically motivated violence." At first, the university warned the professor of potential consequences as serious as termination.
In a communication sent to media outlets: “The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has performed a thorough threat assessment of Teaching Associate Professor Dwayne Dixon based on recent reports and expressions of concern that he is an advocate for political violence,” said Vice Chancellor for Communications and Marketing Dean Stoyer. “The Carolina Behavioral Threat Assessment and Management Team consulted with the UNC System security office and with local law enforcement, undertaking a robust, swift and efficient review of all the evidence.”
A statement from the American Association of University Professors, which criticized the university’s actions, described the “egregious violation” against Dixon as stemming from “baseless” unverified social media posts and flyers. According to the vice chancellor, officials found no evidence to suggest that he posed a threat to UNC, nor did he breach any university policy.
