Durham Primary Election Update
Durham's Mayor Leo Williams, along with city council members DeDreana Freeman, Mark-Anthony Middleton, and Chelsea Cook, have successfully moved forward from the city's primary election.
They are set to compete in the general election next month. In Durham, elections are non-partisan, with the primary taking place just before the general election. Candidates for mayor and three city wards compete in the primary, and the top two candidates in each race progress to the general election.
In the upcoming general election, Williams will be up against Anjanee Bell, the daughter of former Durham Mayor Bill Bell. According to unofficial results released by the N.C. Board of Elections on Tuesday night, Williams secured 55% of the votes, while Bell garnered 30% in the five-candidate race.
