Former NC Governor Files For US Senate

Just two days after the candidate filing opened in North Carolina, Former Governor Roy Cooper has officially registered with the state’s Board of Elections today to run in the 2026 U.S. Senate race.

“What I want to do as United States Senator is work to make life affordable for everyday people, and right now, there’s so many young people who can’t even dream of affording a house,” said Cooper. “That’s wrong. They ought to have that opportunity to achieve the American dream.”

This filing qualifies him for the Democratic primary; however, he currently stands as the only significant candidate from his party. According to the Board of Elections records, no other candidates have submitted their filings.

In-person voting for the March 2026 primaries will commence on February 12, with results expected to be available as early as March 3, coinciding with the actual Election Day.
