President Trump Endorses Phil Berger For 2026 gOP Primary

President Donald Trump has formally endorsed Phil Berger, the North Carolina Senate Leader, in his campaign for reelection to NC Senate District 26, which includes Rockingham and Guilford counties. Trump's support arrives as Berger gears up for a competitive Republican primary in March.

“I’m honored to receive President Trump’s ‘Complete and Total Endorsement,’ because we are both fighting to improve the lives of North Carolinians, standing up to the woke, leftist policies that hurt working people and mock their values,” Berger said in a press release. “The president called to commend Senate Republicans’ work supporting his America First agenda at the state level — and I’m very grateful to have his full support as we pursue more conservative victories.”

The candidate filing period for North Carolina's 2026 elections commenced at noon on December 1 and will continue until noon on December 19. Berger officially filed for reelection on the very first day of the filing period, solidifying his campaign ahead of the Republican primary scheduled for March 3, 2026, with the general election planned for November 3, 2026.

Alongside Trump's endorsement, Berger has also gained support from various notable individuals and organizations, such as Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler; US Senator Ted Budd; Congresswoman Virginia Foxx, R-NC5; Congressman David Rouzer, R-NC7; State Auditor Dave Boliek; the North Carolina Troopers Association; the NC Values Coalition; Americans for Prosperity-North Carolina; and the North Carolina Sheriffs' Association.

Berger was first elected to the state Senate in 2000 and has been serving as Senate leader for over a decade, making him the first Republican to occupy that position in more than a century. The primary contest is expected to be one of the most closely monitored races of 2026 in North Carolina, as advertisements targeting both Berger and Page have already emerged from third-party groups.
